besides her frequent UB "bloopers" she was also known as a good vaulter. IMO Bela Karoyli should have added Nessa to Sydney Olympic team after losing Morgan White. Vanessa could have done 3 events - evreything but bars and possibly could have made it to event finals on those 3 and maybe with Atler USA would have won bronze over China but of course we will never know "what if" because Tasha Scwhikert was added instead

Yes, she was a great vaulter. She was great on three events, but the point I was making in her gympedia entry is that most people forget about her talent and only remember her because she quite often messed up on bars.

However, even with Nessa on three events, I don't think the US would have won bronze over China. The US pretty much fell apart in prelims and struggled to get it back together in finals. Olympic veteran Dom Dawes fell off beam and really wasn't as much of a competitor as Karolyi thought she would be. I do think Nessa should have been on that team and I think she could have made vault and floor finals, possibly medaling, but again, I don't think she alone would have made a difference in regards to the team standings.

completley agree. after falling on beam in prelims i have no idea why Karyoli put her on beam in TF when w/o a fall it really wasnt that much better. about atler not replacing morgan white i dont think we would have medaled if Beckerman was added. Maybe if Morgan had not broke her leg and competed.... IMO we would have medaled in team if our sqad was w/o Dawes but included Atler & Shannon Miller but of course we will never know since Sydney is now long in the past

I completely agree!  Miller could have been a BIG help on bars and beam.
