Cassie Martin was born on December 13, 1987 in Takoma Park, Maryland to Dan and Melba Martin. Cassie picked up the sport of gymnastics when she was just five years old, and began training at a local gym: Hill's. She never spent her days as a club gymnast anywhere else! Despite being a high class gymnast, Cassie remained a normal teenager because while she trained 35 hours a week, she also attended a local public high school instead of being home schooled.
After a very successful level 9 season in 2000, Cassie began competing as a level 10 but encountered a few setbacks and frustrations. Many injuries, including torn and pulled muscles, sprained ankles, stress fractures, and more plagued her Junior Olympic seasons. After two frustrating attempts in 2001 and 2002, Cassie earned her first spot on the Region 7 team for the Junior Olympic National Championships in 2003! She made the most of the opportunity, winning the all-around and titles on uneven bars and balance beam. 2003 was even more exciting as she also qualified as a "pre-elite" and competed in the U.S. Challenge, placing second in the all-around! Being an elite gymnast just wasn't for Cassie and she decided to return to Level 10.
2004 was a busy year as it was her senior year in gymnastics and school. School work, friends, and gymnastics were difficult to balance during this exciting time! Cassie earned another trip to J.O. Nationals and committed to Alabama. In 2005, she graduated and began attending Bama in August.
