Mattie Larson was born on May 20, 1992 to Gail and Eric Larson. Mattie got interested in gymnastics after she saw her older sister, Willie, taking gymnastics lessons. Since then Mattie has been hooked on gymnastics and her sister now takes dance lessons. Mattie trains at All Olympia Gymnastics Center where she is coached by Galina Marinova and Fernando Villa. From the start of Mattie’s competitive career, her talent was evident to all those who watched her. Mattie swept the all around title at her first three prelim competitions as well as level 5 sectionals and level 5 state. She also became level 5 California State Champion on vault and beam. In spring of 2001 Mattie competed in several inivationals as a level 6, and went on to compete a full season of level 6 in the fall. In 2001 Mattie continued with her great results and became the level 6 California State Champion on vault, beam, floor, and all around. She also repeated this task at the level 7 California State Championships in 2002. It was also during this time that Mattie scored the nations best scaore for TOPs testing and became a member of he 2002 USAG National TOPs Team. Mattie continued to rise as the talented California gymnast by placing 2nd all around at level 8 state in 2003, and winning the all around, vault, beam, and floor gold medals at 2003 Level 8 Regional Championships. During the 2004 season Mattie competed scored out of level 9 and became the 2004 Level 10 California State all around champion. She also took the level 10 Regional vault and beam titles. During this time Mattie had also successfully placed herself on the 2004 Region 1 National Team. Mattie was on her way to Florida where she would compete in the Junior Olympic National Championships. Mattie had a good outing for her first national championships, but nerves showed through leaving Mattie in 38th place all around Mattie continued to dominate level 10 in 2005 by taking the all around titles at the state, regional, and national level.
